Hello guys. Want some advise with a stubborn pony motor. Will start with lots of choke,run for a minute then shutdown.seemed like a lack of fuel issue so I rebuilt the carb,soaked the carb in gunk carb cleaner for a couple hours,blew thru the passage ways without removing solder. Cleaned sediment bowl screen,sloshed a chain around in the tank and rinsed out ,blew thru the fuel line,checked cap vent.put it all back together and same thing,it will run for about a minute,then won't start again til it sits for a couple hours.also checked float level ,on high side at 1 1/4 inch.tried high idle screw all the way in,no joy.any ideas?thank you.

is the float needle possibly sticking in the set?

I checked that it would unseat when carb inverted

Loosen the nut fitting where it goes into the carb to see if you have a steady stream of gas there. If yours is like my D4 there is a small screen in the shutoff valve that may be partially clogged where you can blow through it but not enough space for fuel.

Yeah I took that screen off and soaked it it acetone overnight and blew it out the next morning. After installing sediment bowl it fills with fuel pretty quick. I will pull fuel line off Again to double check flow.

One thing I forgot to mention,this all started when it had been running turning over the main engine waiting for it to warm up,approx 5 minutes.I was 30 ft away starting the D4 when I heard the pony backfire and quit on the D2. Might be related?also, this is the first big job it has had this year.

mine did the same thing but in my case it was the pony over heating. it seemed to run fine for the first several minutes but then started to buck and cough and then quit. i put a temp gun on it and quickly realized the reason for the discolored paint around the pony cylinder heads....pulled heads and found the coolant passages stuffed with rust. pulled the pony and found the coolant passage to the main was plugged too. cleaned it all out and never had the problem after that. same as you i had done the carby and fuel lines and such as the machine had been sitting for an extended period of time. not saying this is your problem...just that it sounds familiar.

as it quits soon after starting maybe check the pony fuel tank cap breather hole is not plugged.
S/No might help us help you as to which main jet system is on your pony so we can give appropriate advice-- ie, vertical main jet screw or horizontal.

Yeah I checked the fuel cap vent found it clear. It has horizontal screw with the Chingas that changes its direction 90 deg.thanks
