D7-3T left track not moving?

More

I have a D7-3T that hasn’t been used in about 2 years. The pony motor doesn’t start but we just pull start it. The left track won’t roll? We thought it was a brake issue so we backed it off and tried to soak it to make sure it wasn’t just rust.

We moved it around with our D6-9U but the left track won’t move? Any ideas or things I need to be looking for?

please clarify???? track won't move? is the track stuck and won't move even when being pulled? or the engine starts but you can't get power through the track?

Correct…the track won’t move when being pulled or pushed with the other dozer. The pony won’t start so we can’t use the Dozers own power to attempt to move the track. The right side rolls and the left side just slides. We have pushed it backwards and forward. Now movement?

Hi, Razorback Cat.
You need to do some research to find out WHY it's not moving rather than try to 'break it free' and risk doing more damage to the tractor. If there is no visible external reason why it's stuck, then it would likely be in the final drive gears and/or bearings - MAYbe in as far as the brake. Unless you have a BIGGGG 'emergency fund', you don't want to risk breaking anything in there.

If you have the brake backed well off, you could maybe get in there with a long punch and a hammer and give the brake band a few hits to make sure it is loose but I don't think it is likely to be the problem.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Check if it's the track "frozen" or if the track won't move because the sprocket won't let it. The fix depends on what's wrong. If it's the track is frozen with rust, you can soak them in water to loosen up the frost - not anything oil-based; just plain water.
If the sprocket and internals won't turn (maybe just a degree or two of backlash), then you'll need to dismantle to determine the root cause. I'm not familiar with this model but if there is a cover you can remove to get to the brake drum on that side, you can check if the brake band is stuck to the drum, even though you soaked it. You can also attempt to roll the drum/shafts back and forth to see what's moving and what isn't.

Cheers,

Thank you. Yeah I don’t have a biggg emergency fund that’s why we quit pushing on it when it didn’t move. We couldn’t tell what was really holding it up. It was working great when I I parked it but it sure doesn’t want to move. Had someone interested in buying it since I wasn’t using it.  LOL now it gives me trouble.

i would bet that the track chain is rusted till it froze up. soak with water and rock it back and forth gently over time it will free up.mix diesel and atf for preservative in between attempts.

Thanks for the info. I know it is to good of a machine not to make sure it is operational. I just didn’t use it enough the last couple of years.

If it was rolling when parked I am beating it is the brake band rusted to brake drum yet. Just backing the adjustment off is not going the break the rust loose. Been there done that. Things are rusted together not just the friction of lining on drum. I had only let mine sit for 6 months without moving. I knew I had to get into steering clutches anyway so I removed diesel tank and removed brake band. Then the 9u rolled easy again. Hopefully you can get it loose without going in that far.
