Thanks for that interesting info Eddie, another curve ball for those of us trying to save old Cats, don't plan on falling off your perch anytime soon, we haven't finished with you and your brain yet, or your collection of Cat literature! LOL

Just heard on the news another 3 weeks of lockdown minimum, I hope you and Denise are going OK
All the best
Mike

as for coolant i run australian organic coolants aoc1000 eco cool concentrate mixed at the label rate of 750ml per 10 litres of water. note this is only a coolant and corrosion inhibitor not anti-freeze.

for freeze protection use aoc5000 eco freeze which is a glycol based type A antifreeze/antiboil.

as yes a diesel lubricity additives such as diesel power or flash lube diesel conditioner is a good idea as all diesel available today is ultra low sulphur and doesn't lube these older pumps properly also it tends to attack the standard rubber seals and orings causing leaks and other problems.

Any suggestions on type of oil filter to use? IE full flow or bypass?

Thank you

Now that i read my question... bypass filters are generally an add-on system to a full flow, so i don't believe my question applies to the normal service scenario.

Genuine Cat oil filters are cheap, about $10, go with one provided your oil filter tower was upgraded to full flow, originally the early diesels had brass cans with a super fine screen, before ordering a new filter pull your old one out to see what you have.

all the bypass bit means is whether all the oil pump output goes through the filter or not.

many engines today have a bypass oil system where a small amount of the oil volume from the pump doesn't get filtered the idea being the engine always has some oil lubrication in the event of a plugged or heavily soiled filter some dirty oil is better than none.

this does make a difference with what element is used as they are different like mike has said pull the element and find out.
