Have the parts book but cant figure out the part number for the transmission cover gasket. It is a single piece cover D47U. Any help would be great.

Hi kracked1,
The gasket you are after is 3b0889 and 2 required, but sit down when Cat tell you the price. I now use a length of 3/8 o ring material as it was much cheaper.

Regards

any thing that is a oring groove seal its cheaper to buy a length of the appropriate size nitrile o-ring stock and make your own. bond it using loctite 406 adhesive or loctite 480 rubber toughend adhesive. both are available through most good industrial suppliers or bearing suppliers. many workshops dont stock premade orings any more and use kits to make what they need as its cheaper.

Current Ziegler Mn price is $143.xx. I did find the gasket thread to reference the full list of gaskets needed.

My very first D4 revival project required new cork seals for the transmission cover. I about fell over when I saw what the invoice was just for the cork. I vowed to use something cheaper next time, such as rubber rope, which I was able to buy an entire 300' spool of it for way less money. Some say it was not right, but it works just as well if not better for less. JM

I bought a 3/8" thick sheet of rubberized cork knowing that I had a few tranny covers to work on, and cut replacement strips out of that.
