We have an Alemite catalogue and operating instructions in the Library for these volume compressors.

alemite still make them. model7181 is the high volume bucket pump has its own resivour that you fill from the drum of grease or oil. heres the link: www.skf.com/alemite/products/fluid-handl...cket-pump-model-7181

almost identical to the unit that were supplied via the cat dealers for these old girls which were alemite units anyway.

avalable as bare unit
with button head and hose
with flow meter for oil.
the hose, fitting and meter are available seperatly
a rebuild kit is also available
heres the link to the service manual: www.skf.com/binaries/pub234/Images/0901d...52778.pdf#cid-552778

That is good they still make the volume pump 7181. I looked at one when I picked up some grease from our distributor about 5 years ago. The pumps were rather pricey then at over $400 for the bucket less the hose so would expect to pay much more now. As i remember it looked to be considerably lighter that my old CAT Greasers!! .

If you are near N. California, I can hook you up with one. I do not ship large items (sorry). Or you might share your location, and someone near you might have a reasonably priced volume pump to sell you. As far as portability, I have noticed extremely heavier older ones, VS. newer and much lighter ones. If you don't plan on a lot of greasing, just buying the grease gun adapter and tubes of 00 lube for a "one time" grease job may be your best bet. Just be sparing about the amount you provide, as to not damage your seals.
Who knows, maybe you already have a leaker or two, so not an issue? Good luck. JM

Yes if you are in the PNW I can get you one. Have acquired many over the years as everyone had them around here. Still find them at sales often full of grease. Mike

dont phaff around trying to fill a empty cartridge, buy cartridges of the right grade. or set your gun for bulk loading. then to load remove the head from barrel wipe the thread clean with rag, stick the end of barrel just into the grease no deeper than the thread and draw the follower back sloooowly keeping the end in the grease till it locks back, carefully check how much grease has drawn into the gun, if needed get a paddle a steel ruler is good for this and pack grease into the barrel using a wipe and push method like packing wheel bearing by hand, when you think you've filled it enough screw the head on 3/4 of the way release the rod and bleed the air. the other way is to use the j2 loading port and a j2 loader pump. yes bulk is cheaper if using a lot of grease. but its easier and less mess to use cartridges. unless you've got one of those volume compressors.

Ugh! TKids88 is reminding me of my youth. My brother was adamant that we only use bulk grease to fill the one and only grease gun we owned, because cartridges cost too MUCH $. What a mess that was sometimes, when the plunger slipped and all the precious grease gurgled back out of the gun, and then you spent 10 minutes trying to get the air pocket out of it, because we were not allowed to use anything but the suction of the gun to load it with. Hahaha, fast forward, we only bought tubes of grease, then nobody wanted to reload the empty grease GUNS (I emphasize plural), so now there are a dozen hanging on the combination bolt bin/tool cart all EMPTY except for the special one he uses for his boat trailers. Glad someone has their priorities in order! LOL. JM
