A local farmer decided to sell off a couple of tractors. These were used along with approximately a dozen other D4s near the Sacramento International Airport in walnut orchards that are close to the Sac River.
I found these 7U orchard machines and will have them “tidied up” before putting them to work.
As of this posting, they have 8-9 more for sale; a nice 7U top seat, and several C and D series as well. There are also 2 D series that have been re-powered with CAT 4.4 litre smog compliant engines.
These were originally posted on FB and CL, I can share contact information if any serious buyers wish to view them in person. JM

Wow those are nice crawlers! Most everything over this way was used up or scrapped, not many rebuilt them or took good care of em.

Thanks guys, I have been waiting for a 5 roller 7U series (in orchard version) for awhile. Patience must have paid off; I would have liked to have purchased one of the 84J D series, but couldn't pass up the bare 7U, as it turned out to be a much better tractor than the 38,xxx unit with the #44 and really nice plate fenders. Tractor Don has another #44 for me to transplant onto the bare one; it will get its sloppy levers re-bushed and some new gauges and a pair of 3EE batteries. The rails are excellent. Then it goes on spray duty next to the Sacramento river in the orchards; Not just Bartlett pears, but several walnut and almond orchards have been planted there by deep pocketed individuals.
The other tractor was converted using early D4 parts; we will remove the long tank/hood for one from a 7U I have here, and possibly install the PTO and cast seat base from my parts machine; the dry air cleaner will be moved ahead to allow for a dashboard/firewall to be installed, just to make things look proper.
This should keep me out of mischief for a little while. JM

Looks like word got out to some members. I get the honor of hauling some more to my place for safe keeping. Adoption? We do not care where anyone is from, as long as you like Caterpillars! Just remember to pay the seller in U.S. Dollars...
There may be a day when I decide to part with a few. A friend just called up and decided it would be cool to own one D4 of each series, just like trading cards or a poker hand, so looks like another one to squeeze on the trailer. JM

he will soon have a full house instead of a straight flush.
im the same with ronaldson-tippets we have 1 of each hp size for their very popular type N series. there sort of like grey fergies or farmall model A tractors every man and his dog had one. one day i might get a type NA (aircooled) which are a bit rarer.
