Yes the settings in my 1953 book is with the 3H1690 & lists it right on the front of the book that,s what the tool is to set to the specs listed. That is the only tool we used at the dealer for all the D2-4-6-7-8-9 & the industrials of the same era with the big housing on it. The real old housings did use a different procedure & tool to check their racks.

Hi OM & SJ,
sorry about the typo on the 3H(8M)1690 Gauge.

ALL IS REVEALED!

FOUND S/M April 28 1961 announces introduction of the 8M0530 Rack Setting Gauge, Thimble Mic., to our Dealership. Replaces the 1M6953 Gauge and Depth Mic. combo. Will post when able.

FOUND S/M April 03 1953 article on UNIVERSAL FUEL RACK SETTING GAUGE, will post when able.
It tells of:- "Rack setting figures for this gauge are different from those previously published in the Servicemen's Reference Book "Fuel Injection Pump Housings". Only those figures shown in the instructions (Form No 30782) can be used with the 3H1690 Gauge.
When I went to do a Rack Setting check on my 2H RD6 Flange Mounted Pump, I had all the tools but no setting dimensions, as it now seems all this data went out with the intro of the 3H1690 Gauge!
I did do On Engine Lifter Settings and boy what a difference, smoothed her up nicely, just could'nt stall that 3 cyl. engine, more stack music.
In my Apprentice days the FIP Room was locked and only Authorised people got in there, and all publications and tooling were under lock and key. At our new premises (1966) the FIP room was not locked during work hours, but a big sign on the door says "Strictly No Admittance Authorised Personel Only", this was strictly enforced, and all publications and tooling were still locked away. Adjustment data was never revealed either! We strived to keep every thing "in house". Definitely a closed shop you might say, and nothing has changed in this regard.
The 1M6973 Gauge is a spacer block used to fit in the aperture, also used for the 8M0530 Thimble mic., to allow the rack to be zeroed with a depth mic.. My just found Service Tools Book, No 11 page 36, 2nd photo shows the block in use under the heading:- Fuel Pump Rack Setting Fixture, shows both the Vernier dial and 1M6953 gauges in use.
I think this puts to bed several queries on some of the older Fuel System tooling.
Cheers for now
Eddie B.

Thanks edb, we're getting closer:) :)
That confirms my suspicions about the pumps and rack information.
Be glad when you get the scanner up and operational.
From what I gather so far it's hardly worth worrying about the later nozzles and everything was geared to the counterbored type since about 1951.
