Hi Team,
will try and post some more, might run out of photo space. I think I lost last nights posts on FI Tooling by removing posts from Manage Attachments, after posting, to get some space back. Looking at some of these scans after posting they are soso at normal size, but, if you go to Page Icon on Windows in the lower right side of the the upper boxes section and click on Page the Zoom function comes up and zoom to 200% for good view.Cheers

Hi edb,
Looks like ya hit the mother lode on nozzles, most information I've seen in a long time. Thanks for posting.
Yes I had the same experience. Cleaned out the pic files to soon which erased what I had just posted. The quota thing is a pain in the a$$.

This chart we used to convert Valve Service Groups to/from Capsule P/No's. It does not cover all nozzles as many superceded, but was better than nothing.
Also attached is Product Bulletin Sept. 07 1966. P.B. March 02 1962 is in previous post. Dates got left of to conserve scan space!.
Cheers

Hi OM,
how long before we get to regain scan space on this BB, or what do we do to regain it?
Glad to try and share this with who ever to keep the "OLDIES" going. The Dealers cant see any $$$$$'s in old gear now, so info is being tipped out and as us older servicemen leave the industry, the young blokes aren't interested, the smaller clients with older low numbers of machines are missing out.

Before I retired I got our Technical Service Dept. to copy all my old "Useless Info." and put it on data base for future reference. I have also given them the "heads up" on these sites for these clients. Hope it works out as it was all I could think of to do. Over here this is a young blokes industry and I was a Dinosaur, big age gap to the average Serviceman.
Cheers

High edb,
Ya have to fix your own storage space allotment:
Log in:
Click on User CP at top of this page
Scroll all the way down to the end list on LH side of screen
Click on attachments
You will get a listing of all you pics and have to click on the ones you want to delete........then you can start the process all over again:D :D

Glad you rescued all that old info. I to have been collecting for years but my stuff is mostly diesels of the late 30's, 40's to 60's with some into the 70's. Never got real serious about the gas Cat's, just wasn't enough of them around me to influence me as a young un I guess.

I don't really think much about how useful the stuff is to a shrinking user base, just like to muck around in the old stuff and appreciate the evolution of one of the world's premium manufacturer's and if the info helps keep some of these old beasts alive, that just makes it more appealing.

Hi OM,
just got back from Dealer after copying the "MOTHER LOAD", managed to find an old Form No 7272 with the old Rack Set. data, example D2 3J--5J R/Set. is:-3.02". It is very well used, also had copy of the Form No 30782 Instructions and Rack Setting Charts for Caterpillar 3H1690 Fuel Rack Setting Gauge is inserted into it. It was one of the books that was under lock and key when I was an Apprentice, and still is!

Also got copy of Form No 5683A "Diesel Fuel Injection Pump And Valve Test Apparatus"--Includes Reconditioning Instructions for Injection Valves.

I feel that until the release of the Fuel Injection Test Apparatus that there was possibly no other way of the Dealer servicing this gear, outside of basic tinkering for the gov., reconditioning of the Injector, and replacement of the Injection Pumps. Seems to be no one left from that era to ask, especially any one with fuel system knowledge, so I have to speculate here. This would explain the apparent lack of data prior to this time. My Serv. Mags have gaps in them, missing 1932-1936, gaps 1937-49.Also have the publication Selected Articles From Service Magazines 1932-1950. So I cannot tell when the Test Apparatus was introduced. Earliest mention of testing any thing on it is S/M June 30 1949 Testing Capsule type Injectors--attached.

The test specs changed for the capsule inj. some time? and you are correct it has been 300 min. and 800 max. in the first instance--see attached articles, and changed some time to the Spec I always used as in the later current spec. --400min. and 750 max.. Pressure loss test adjusted accordingly.

Thanks for the heads up on the posting data.
Cheers

WOW, great stuff,
and sounds like it is getting rescued in the brink of time. This material really should be formalized and archived or it will be lost forever.
Yes, I did wonder about getting down to 300 psi or so as that's getting pretty close to compression pressures.
Again thanks for your sleuth work and posting for all to see:D :D

Hi OM,
are you able to zoom up the page size to get a clearer picture?, don't know what else I can do to get scan size down to post and still be clear. The learning curve is straight up ;) !
Any how Cheers for now,

Hi edb,
Yes, I have been able to blow up the size for reading. Have to transfer the material to my files where I can go to work on them. No problem:D

There are a couple of pics that are kinda fuzzy:
The "Improved Fuel Injection Valve Nozzles" and the "Fuel Injection Valve Service Groups" but I suspect the print quality of the original is probably not all that great. Expanding these just makes them more blurry but I can still pretty much make out what the content is.

Not a whole lot you can do about it with the current limitations on file size and dimensions. Now that you have mastered the BB picture posting ya might try the web hosted picture services (free) like "imageshack" or others. There you can post huge pictures of superior clarity and transfer them to this BB, effectively bypassing the restrictions because it does not use this sites storage space on the server.

At this point I'm just happy to get the information:) :) :)
