Hello - I just aquired another D4-5T. Can someone tell me the year of manufacture? Also, I know the W equates to 60" gauge, but what does the SP signify?

Thanks,
C. D. Hunter

Current: D47U turbocharged w/Holt angle blade
Past: 22 Wide Gauge w/Cable Blade, D25U, D45T w/Bucyrus Erie straight blade, D45T Orchard, D45T w/Cat straight blade.

Gosh there is my adopted cousin as I haven,t seen you on in a long time. I,m K. Hunter but anyway the D4-5T came out in 1943 so this will give you an idea of the year. Also the SNID book lists an RD4 5T & it came out in 1945 it said. Hope things are going well with you. Forgot to answer, the SP stands for Special Parts like different transmission gearing or other things on the tractor which normally aren,t standard & are added on if ordered for on the new tractor.

Hello SJ - How are things on your side of the continent?
I have not been frequenting this site much in the past 2 years, since I had a tugboat that was consuming a lot of time and money and the fact that I was catless . Anyway, I stumbled on a add in craigslist titled "1946 D4 Caterpiller bulldozer (repair or parts)" so I had to check the old girl out and perhaps save her from being parted out. I ended up buying her on the spot. I realize the blade is not original, but do you think this D4 could have be a military model...Olivedrab and Yellow are my favorite colors.:D
Here is a picture....

Thanks for the information!

Yes C.D. it,s possble that it could be a military tractor in the time frame it was built.Things are going well here back east but a little cooler today, in the low 60s but is to warm up a little more later in the week.
