ok tonight i went through and used sandpaper so i would have a nice surface on the MAG cap and on the "rotor" and just awondering how a MAG worked i was spinning it and it shocked me... i almost fell on the ground it scared me to death... well i was using the hand crank and about broke my arm but i got it to fire 3 times... so does anyone know the original wiring to the MAG??? because on the front of the mag there is a hole with a screw thats all brass... is that for headlights?
thanks

All a magneto does is make spark. The brass screw is probably where the shorting/ground wire goes. Meaning it was where the ORIGINAL keyswitch was wired to.

The original generator that was on it powered the lights. I see in the photo's there is an alternator on it. Go through my replies to firefighter about how it should have been wired and where to Google for the information you need on the keyswitch and wiring harness.

well i got the least PSI pump they have... max is 4.5PSI... so at about 3/4 throttle it runs ok and any more throttle and it boggs down and any less it also boggs down...

carb is dirty in the jet passageways. If it is bogging down at less than 3/4 throttle and you said it smelled rich, then its too much fuel delivered. If you say its popping and coughing, then it is too little fuel delivered.
But if its is "just bogging down", then it could be a half a dozen little issues.
Yes it will run with gravity feed, just fine till you go up hill, then it will run out of fuel!
You should do a search for the Threads on "Fuel Pump" rebuilds to see how the other guys are fixing it right.

it is really rich and sputters before 3/4 throttle and after 3/4 it sputters like it's not getting enough fuel.... so i would like to use the original fuel pump... i just don't know where the fuel lines go... can anyone post pics of it???
i would really appreciate it... and i will go through the carb and try to clean it... i don't know much about carbs i have done some... but being 15 i havn't done much!!! thanks again

Sounds like you really know old iron. How come you're not sitting inside playing VIDEO GAMES??????
Great to hear that there's actually a young guy out there somewhere that likes to tinker with this old junk.
I didn't know much about carburetors at your age either, but after several decades of tinkering with them you learn a few things. After sitting for ten years it's bound to have some chunks of "petrified gas" in the carb somewhere. Take it apart carefully and make sure you remember how it all goes back together. Check it out, see how it works and look at how the fuel flows through all the passages. Clean out all the passages with carburetor cleaner and a fine wire and put it all back together. Set the main & idle screws at 1-1/2 turns open, that should be close on most carburetors.
That's the best way to learn about carburetors. After you've done a few of them you'll know more about what to look for on the next one.
Good Luck! ...and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty, I think that's the main problem with today's youth.
