I'll give you an "A" for the effort, but a "D" on mis-labeling certain machines. Why label them? Just post 'em.
You ask for our opinion, but when we give it, I don't want to see your belly-button.

Hi Glen , Did you bother to read Bumpuses Post on the Scoop for sale ,where Bumpus said he actually rang the seller, the seller said there was a ID plate on the scoop that said caterpillar.
Bumpus then researched , and found the tie up between cat and le-tourneau . Why have a Whinge about the heading , is it better to leave it blank , or put up infomation the seller has provided .

As far as members Ads being buried. All they have to do is post on the thread to refresh it as many do ,to show the item is still available .

What i find interesting , with the poll is ,Most of the posts are in support of bumpus keeping on doing what he has been doing.
The people who have voted for him to stop have not bothered posting to give their reason ,which is why Bumpus put the poll up and asked for comments . All i can say is Good on Mike Walsh, He has given his reason ,he is against .. Out of over 14000 forum members only a bit over 100 have voted . 11 out of the 100 voted to stop , not a big percentage in the whole scheme of things .

Bumpus ,You put up a you tube video of the ACME members at their annual spring fling . If you happen to be wandering about in Kansas on the Weekend of the 25th though to the 28th of may , Once again this event is happening and i dare say you would be quite welcome to stop by watch the fun and join in if you so wish .I can past on contact details if you are interested .

Yes Ianoz,

I read the post that stated the evidence was no longer availble because somebody stole it. I agree it was a Letourneau Tumble Bug, but I disagree it had Caterpillar on it. I know Letourneau made a lot of attachments that went on Cats, but I've never seen Cat's name on them. I gave my opinion that it's wrong to advertise something that is not, like the 1976 D8-H. ChriscoKid's posts don't label the adds, he states, "found on Craigslist". I'm ok with that, but labeling something misleading as the author did, I feel does no one any good.

Glen. You'll probably appreciate this more than most, having spent your entire life in the California construction industry. How many contractors do you know who have been sued just because they worked on "the job", not because any of the work they performed was wrong. The liability to ACMOC and each Director for misrepresentation is the other half of the equation which no one seems too concerned about. A lot of people support what Bumpus is doing. If consequences arise therefrom are they going to contribute to a defense. Misrep is easy to allege; ACMOC is aware or should be aware of the potential problem. Why spend money on nuisance litigation when you can make a course correction.

Ianoz. Most people would think that contacting the seller and getting the info right is a good thing but it just makes matters worse. Do this and you've assumed a duty that the info will be correct; do this enough times and someone can rely upon you to do this every time. Welcome to California and most of the rest of the USA.

What many people may not be aware of is that ACMOC posts come up regularly when doing an internet search. Therefore, someone who's never looked at this forum previously may find a piece of equipment listed on ACMOC, rather than the host site. If the buyer gets burned and pursues the matter, it doesn't take a very bright attorney to add a few names to the pleadings. This would weaken the organization. Perhaps the Directors are insured against this risk and don't care as most organizations insure their directors. However, insurance is cheap until you start using it. Premiums have a way of doubling after the insurance company starts paying for a defense.

My primary complaint/suggestion is that ACMOC create another category for these type of items. This keeps members postings under For Sale/Wanted fresh and on page one for a reasonable length of time. If members are expected to refresh their posting to get them back up top, this just turns into a battle of the postings; who needs the extra friction and grief. As for the liability problem, ACMOC needs to figure out for themselves what degree of risk they want to take and make their own decision re how to handle it.

Hope this helps.

I'll throw my 0.02 on this topic since I post machines I don't personally own for sale.

Most other message boards that I've been involved with for the past 20 years have had a more structured "For Sale/Wanted" section on their site. Usually a standard abbreviation nomenclature has been adopted for posting on the site. FS - For Sale, WTT - Want to Trade, WTB - Want to Buy, etc.

Anyone that's seen my "For Sale/Wanted" posts before will probably have noticed that I have tryed (not always succeeded) in doing a structured informative heading. Example:

FS: 1929 CAT 20 - Topeka, KS FS: 1975 CAT 977L 4IN1 RIPPER - Oxnard, CA

I'm not saying adopt my system, what I am saying is that maybe to meet in the middle on this subject we create a set of ACMOC listing abbreviations.

Maybe "MEM - FS:" for members and "WWW - FS:" for internet listings? I personally find year / make / model / location helpful for filtering ads. Let's collectively come up with a good system that saves everyone time and frustration.

Comment on posting content: Now I admit that I do filter the original postings sometimes, some original ads are garbage. That said it's always possible that I've overlooked some detail that someone else will catch, if so please let me know politely and I will correct the error. Let's all remember we're trying to better our hobby and keep it going. Many "For Sale" ads really mean "For Saving", the more visibility the better the odds of survival.

I enjoy the posts Bumpus-I might feel a little different if one of the tractors or the CAT equipment you circulate information on was one I was bidding.....added competition you know, but that competition is all good, really! Especially if someone from this board or ACME is the seller. :thumb:

My suggestion is keep em coming, and thanks for taking the time to post.

This was the one site we could come to to shop for Caterpillar related items actually for sale by the seller. I can shop on all of the other sights if that is what I need. I do not want to have to skip past all of the Bumpus listings. Why do you not set up your own web site called Bumpus Relisted items ? ACMOC was set up for members that have items to list for sale to do just that. Not for someone to clog up with items that are not owned by the listing member. I would start shopping this sight again if this spam was not clogging it up. Please STOP....

I still do not like the fact that when I post an item for sale it is buried by non ACMOC members items and requires me to refresh daily at least. Perhaps a members and owners for sale section?
