If you can't locate the later head it is possible to have the pre-com chamber holes bored out to glow plug size.

old magnet i had never thought about that. but up here trying to find a machinest to do that would be impossible. all of older experianced ones are not messing with anything that heavy due to age and the young college trained ones cant figure it out, if they cant punch it in to a computer. they have learn how to rub 2 sticks together to make fire. i have been working in Jim Zimmermans new house ( tilling his bathroom) he has the 4f5088 cylinder head. i am getting that head from him. (by the way its a ghost town there most of the machines in the yard are gone. he is still working on cats. last summer there were still cats in the yard area.) any how i found a place to make a custom cutting edge to factory specs, thats a relief. also has anyone ever tried a preheater in the intake manifold? for electric start since my situatution involves smaller pre combs now that wont allow for glow plugs.
i was curious if this would throw enough heat to start one. drill a hole in the intake manifold as close to the middle as possible thread and wire it.
i have new injectors in my big pre comb chambers for the original cracked head, will they fit in the small pre comb chambers. i hope.

thanks

I have had and heard conversations about putting air heater devices in the intake manifold but to my knowledge no one has made a sucessful conversion installation.
Interesting that you'd be working on Jim Zimmermans house.....
The injectors (capsules) will work with either pre-com chambers but be aware they use a different retaining nut.

old magnet thanks for the response on the preheater, i wonder if its due indirect injection? i had the part # off the cylinder head wrong
the head i have for a replacement is 4F5508.
the tractor has the wet clutch and the spot for the starter on the flywheel housing. so when the pony kicks off i will determine what to do then.
last fall after i was done using it i had to fix the hydraulic system. it had a CAT 41 system that was worn out internally. i wanted to keep it orginal
but wanted better hydrualic system. so i put a gear pump on it. i put the pump in same lacation and used the same mount which had to be modified for a B mount pump then had to machine the drive shaft for the proper splines of the new pump. added an new valve with power beyond for rear attachments,
looks pretty good but not original as i would like, but works way better. i used it this winter to move some frozen dirt to bury a family pet, my 45 year old mule kicked off. the only thing with a gear pump in the winter is it makes the pony work way harder. the vickers van pumps freewheel at low rpms which is a good design for starting.
i would love to come to california to see some the old caterillar out there. there is really nothing around hear. i always look on craigslist in california for cats for sale but then think of the shipping to get back here. kinda wish list.
thanks

Measure the Bolt hole size and the distance between the centres of the holes on the cutting edge ..Most cutting edges are a standard size .You may have to get one and shorten it ,if the bolt pattern and size is right ..Google Dozer cutting edges in you state ,and see what suppliers come up .
