Hi oldbeek,

Does the flywheel have just one groove in it for the rope start like the picture?

Thanks,

Ron

I would think all the pony flywheels would come standard with the 2 notches to attach the pull rope knot to.

However, if you wanted more notches, you probably could easily grind one out with a grinder.

I have 1 sitting out that has an extra belt groove. Much heavier rope flange. Have one still on a machine same as yours but one rope notch is broken like yours. Not interested in taking that one off.

If you can find one, you might as well buy one with the extra groove just in case you want to change over at some later date to electric start for the pony. Just my 2 cents worth. Grant.

I agree with GrantJ get the double belt pulley and yes flywheels have two notches for balance. I am quit curious as to how you chipped the flywheel. I am working on three 12A 955's all have D315's and one has a broken flywheel just like yours on the pony. Was it from pulling the pony off the main engine and banging around or from stuff in the floor while the pony was running. I just want to highlight a potential problem area that I need to watch for in the future.

Most those flanges get busted by folks using a puller of sorts on the thin flange or using the notch to prop the flange during the retainer nut tightening process.
