Hi Folks
Anyone have any sources for Valve Service Groups for a D8 2U 22889 ? I think the number is a 6B0927 ?
There are a couple showing on Machinery Trader but need a set of 6. Any suggestions ?
Cheers
Dave

Hi Team,
Caterpillar Valve Service Groups (VSG) were discontinued many years ago--some old stock may exist in outside sources.
Chart below is what we used at the Dealer Injection Pump Room back in the day.
The VSG contained  the capsule injector and the two seals for fitting same.

To find which P/No Nozzle Assem. you need, first find your VSG P/No and order the Capsule shown on the same line to the left of the VSG P/No,  as well as the two "O" Ring seals required as shown in your parts book.

Other charts for reference as needed and FYI for others chasing VSG's for other machines.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks Eddie for the info on the VSGs.
I am just wondering if the injectors for a D8 2U 22889 are a complete injector and not one that has a nozzle screwed onto the end ?
Can anyone tell me the parts number for the injector or send me a parts book picture for this s/n machine as i don't have a book here ?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,
Silly me I was fooled  by the reference to VSG's which indeed are part of your Flat Seat Injection Nozzle and as well the later type of capsule nozzles used after the 2U. These VSG's we knew as Flat Seat Nozzles at the Dealer when we were doing these regularly so as to differentiate between the two types.
I should have checked the OMI or parts book.
The replacement Flat Seat Injection Nozzle VSG's you are after have not been available from Cat for Many years, however they are often able to be reconditioned using the correct Cat reconditioning kit of convex and concave laps for resurfacing the end of the injector body, the end of the nozzle (VSG) body, and the concave needle end face--the end disc surface needs to be lapped flat to remove the wear/erosion from the needle end--sometimes the needle side face at the sealing end needs to be ground  a little to remove erosion damage to save lapping too much off the end of the needle and also to reduce the end area back some.
Scans below should help.
There was someone on here doing them (Bill Walter I think) but age caught up and he retired-I do not know if someone else is doing them now.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks so much Eddie. Now I just seed to find some of those nozzles and get with my fuel guy to overhaul them. Appreciate your wealth of information.
Cheers, Dave
