Interesting! that looks like the crank is permanently attached to the machine. A good idea then it wouldn't get lost like mine did.

Not sure that pic is of a 28 hand crank I have a twenty eight and 2 cranks both are loose cranks not mounted to the machine that L part number should be more like a twenty hand crank I’ll have to look at my crank for the part number

That is not a 28 starting crank. It is a crank to turn D4400 diesel engines for timing. Though they can be adapted to function as a removable starting crank. 28 would have come as indicated in the parts book scan, a non removable crank. A removable crank would have been an option.

Mine is a loose crank. the shaft extends quite a bit in front of the radiator and disengages at the inside end when the motor starts.

Correct detachable crank for 20, 25, and 28 is assembly L2105 casting L1899.
Correct crank for rear start on 35, 40, R5 is assembly 1A660, casting 1A647, was also used as front starting crank on gas 50, and diesel rotating crank for D35, D40, RD6, D50 and RD7.
The 1a660 I believe has a larger hole than the pictured one, otherwise same overall size.
