hello rollingiron ,i have giving you wrong info about 315bl ,it should have been 315cl.
    model with 5xk are 315 (fr ,jp,fr)315b(jp)315c(jp)315cl(jp)

    also 317(fr)317bl(fr)317bln(fr)
    -318bl(jp)318b(jp)318bl(jp,fr)318bln(jp,fr,)

    engine should be a 3046 .

    Hi Bruce oz,
I hope your not relying on that Toughquip Buyer Guide for your serial number info. It appears to be really messed up on the 315BL models. Best I could find is it uses the 3046T engine but do need the series and serial number to pin it down.

    315B model 1SWxxxx 3046 5XKxxxx
    315B 3AW 3046 5XK
    315B 5SW 3054 5HK
    315B 5SW 3054 7BJ
    315B 7RZ 3046 5XK

I hope that we can help you with reliable serial number information. I work with Top Bid (www.topbid.com), a division of Randall-Reilly Publishing, and we publish a very comprehensive guide that includes used Caterpillar serial numbers. Auctioneers, finance companies, new and used equipment dealers, and appraisers use the guide. To access full data, you'll need to invest in our book or on-line subscription, and the Caterpillar 3-digit prefix information is on-line for free. The reason Top Bid can produce this information so reliably is that we check our data against lien registrations and get much of the data directly from the OEM. I hope you'll give us a chance.
