D8 Steering clutch adjustment

I need to adjust a steering clutch in my D8R9605. It stopped working so I looked in my operators manual for info. When I went looking under the Dozer just below the steering clutch I found that the bottom adjustment for the "clutch fork" was loose to the touch. How do I know how tight/far to turn this adjustment (screw with jam-nut)? The manual says to move the top of the fork towards canter of dozer before adjusting. Does this means simply pulling the release lever which indeed does move the top of the fork towards the center of the dozer? Does this mean I can simply tie off the lever in the release position and then tighten the under tractor adjustment screw?

The OMI for your D8R9605 is in the ACMOC library. The instructions for the clutch adjustment starts on page 62. Simply enter the document type as "Operators Instructions" and the "Equipment Model" as D8. Opps! I just took the time to read your post! Sorry 'bout that!

Hi Floyd, I took the time to study your question and the OMI. The instructions in the OMI seem pretty straight forward. I'm more concerned of when the problem happened. If the problem just suddenly happened I would suspect a steering clutch disk lining  failure.

That helps hugely. Thanks very much. I'll be headed back into the back country shortly to get back to work.
