Pat, my perpetually under-painted D2, and I hope the LaPlant-Choate CAB ( If I get it back together) OR maybe a Russel grader!

Stephen,

That's GREAT! It is nicer when you have something to pull or demonstrate. I bought and restored a 1937 John Deere S-15 Subsoiler years ago. But even John Deere's smallest subsoiler was too much for the TEN in this soil (clay). I sold it.

Glad you will be bringing some equipment to operate and enjoy. I have two other shows I will be going to before Kens, but I can hardly wait for November!

See you there!

Pat,
I have just bought a 1929 Cat Ten and with it came a set of plows. The previous owner was plowing his garden and the Ten pulled them really well. It has a couple bearings/bushing needing some attention but otherwise in good shape. Cockshutt is the manufacturer. If you are close I would let you borrow them to try out.
Have a good day.........Bill

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the offer!

That is a nice looking plow. I only know Cockshut for their tractors. Years ago I hooked up to a 2 bottom plow...I believe it had 12" shares. My TEN pulled them in second gear without hesitating. I plowed for 30 minutes straight and the tractor did great...no over heating...no vapor lock!

That John Deere subsoiler on the other hand...I set the depth to 12 or 14 inches and I did okay...but when I started dropping the shank past 18 inches...that's when I could tell the TEN was working hard. When I went to 22 inches...I had to use first gear only...and the TEN started really strain to pull it. I never went deeper than that. The farmer I got it from told me he thought it would take a good 30 horsepower tractor to pull the subsoiler at full depth. Now I totally believe him!

See you in November!
