977A20 the story so far

:( THE BAD NEWS
My 977A20 is real tired, she started with a little ether on 4, about 30 sec later it picks up # 5 then a minute or so later #6, did not smoke much though, the hour meter broke at about 13K hours, probably many MANY years ago, the last owner used it for demolition(eee gad!!) Well the highway dept. is widening the road in front of my place so my seemingly endless supply of ballast from the abandonded RR right of way is going away for good.. So under moon light as usual I was making a few trips outside of my gate loafing along when she got a big time worry knock I mean LOUD. sounded like a valve train noise only on steroids, so I lowered the RPMs to near idle and tried to get off of the right of way, not wanting to get tagged as a "Gravel Looter" no kidding thats what they call it, long story short it locked up directly crossways in my driveway, but I managed to get it turned with my dump truck and pulled back to the house. It sounded like I broke a valve spring and when the valve got tired of being slammed back into the seat by the piston it broke and went into the cylinder.

THE GOOD NEWS
I had picked up a D318 at an auction some time ago that came out of a crane, it runs like new, no help needed to start and starts on all 6 right away, purrs like kitten, only about 4K on the hour meter, but it is a much later engine, no place for a pony, strait teeth on the flywheel and a dry clutch (twin disk)

THE QUESTION
What problems might I have mounting the wet clutch, bell housing and installing this engine into my 977?
THANKS

Bolt on's should not be any trouble at all, still the same basic D318 engine.
You will need to know or check if the crane engine had the same three section oil pump and pickups as used in the tractor.

Thanks O. M.

I forgot about that, not a real deal breaker though down here as I live on the coastal plains IE it's flat as a pancake here. Well ok not completely, my property is 3500 feet deep and there IS a 6 foot drop from the rear to the front, can't wait to lift the complete loader frame, arms and bucket. with my "saved from the scrap yard" 30 ton drag line, hope the ol lady spends the life insurance wisely HE HE.
