D8 Help

Good morning;
Once again I need to tap the vast knowledge of the membership. My D8 15A763 suffered a broken forward-reverse shift lever (p/n 5H1818). It appeared to break because the clamp bolt broke. I've got the broken lever out but the broken bolt must be down in the transmission. I cannot find it with a flashlight and a magnet thru the shifter hole so I drained the oil in hopes that it would flush out. No luck, the inlet screen blocks the drain hole. My question is, can I remove the inlet screen thru the drain access hole? I've already removed the plate that includes the drain plug. The parts book shows the screen attached to an inlet tube that looks like it is removable fom outside the trans. I'll bet SJ has done this many times. Thanks.

In looking through my parts book and service manual it does not state for sure that the suction bell and tube assembly will come out through the bottom opening but you can unbolt the assembly by removing the through bolts that pass through the front of the case. If you can't remove it it seems you would be able to at least move it out of the way to go bolt searching. Yes, it would be good if SJ or someone could actually verify.

Thanks Old Magnet, I too saw the studs. I guess I'll just give it a try. Thanks again. Packrat
