Year and color was created by bboaz
Found a Cat 30 at an auction last weekend and was able to bring it home for a decent price. I don’t have a Serial Number Reference Manual so I wondered if someone could reference the year of this machine. Serial Number PS12935. I am thinking it is a 1930 or 1931. What Color is this machine suppose to be painted? I read somewhere that the color change was made to Highway Yellow in 1931. Is this in fact true? Was everything prior to 1931 Grey? If the color change was made in 1931 to Highway Yellow, and this machine is in fact a 1931, at what Serial Number was the change to Highway Yellow made? I remember seeing a Post some time back concerning this topic on the Forum, but I do not remember the full content of the Post. I have searched for it but cannot find it. I hate to bring up a subject that has already been covered , but it would b e nice to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks

According to the club serial number guide, your tractor was built in very early 1931. The first serial number listed for that year is PS12905. Also according to the club serial number guide, the color changed to Hi-Way Yellow on Dec 7, 1931. That would indicate your tractor was Gray when it left the Peoria factory.

Those 30s are sure nice tractors. Have a couple of 'em myself. Your's has the rare "cold weather package", and had a hood over the engine. A good tractor to restore. Hope that is what you have in mind. GWH

Thanks for the information on the year and color. I was hoping this tractor would qualify for a coat of Grey Paint. As time permits, I do hope to be able to restore this tractor. It is pretty well complete in all the parts. I wondered why this one had a hood and any I have seen in pictures didn't. What does this "cold weather package" consist of other than the hood? That is the only difference I see. There were two of these at this auction. The other one had a PTO on it but was missing some parts and someone had fabricated a blade on it. Thanks again for the information.
