Injector Question was created by bullcrk,6
First time posting a question to you folks out there so bear with me I have
to one finger the key board, held out as long as I could getting computer
My first question ? has anyone used or no of a fuel injection shop that can
clean and rebuild the tall three and threequarter inch bore D3400 D2 injectors
the shop I use for injection work won't touch them or is there no one left
that can overhaul them.
And recently while having coffee at the local gossip stop someone asked
me where the term CATSKINNER came from when refering to a dozer or
grader operator of the olden days I thought there might be some retired
catskinners out there that might know.

Thank you in advance if any one can help bullcrk,6. california

I always assumed that it was a carryover from the 'muleskinner' term used for mule drivers/operators/bosses. etc.

A while back there was this post on the BB from Chapter I for Fuel Injection Services (nozzles & pumps).
Apparently they have activated an old test stand apparatus.

I think that's right, & I think "skinner" referred to peeling hide off the mules' backs w/the whip...(don't tell PETA)...

"Cat skinner" was used a lot out here among the loggers and I think the derivation given is probably correct--came up from mule skinner. I didn't know it was used a alot in other areas. Interesting.

The old steam yarder (donkey engine) operators were called "donkey punchers." Anybody want to tackle the derivation of that one?

The diesel shops around here have pretty much quit working on the big injectors. I'm told you can take them out, turn them upside down and reconnect them, start the pony and see what they do. Then you start through a barrel full of used ones until you find four that work adaquately.

If you try this be careful. They can shoot diesel through your skin deep.

So far I havn't had to try this. I confess that this is second hand knowledge. Anybody there that has done it?

Hi Jack,
Have on occasion done the outside injector hook up. Does work....but not great. Fairly straight forward for the capsule type (disposable) but tends to lead to the barrel requirement you mentioned if there is a problem with the flat seat units.
Sort of a rough check to see basic function but a bit difficult to analyze spray patterns.

I was also told you could fire the spray pattern with a blow torch and see better what it was doing. sounds a little spectacular. Ever done that?
