Can anyone give me any information on what it takes to put a clutch in a 1949 212-9t grader?
I don't have any service manuals on this and I not sure what needs to be done.
Thanks Bob

The way you,d have to do it is remove the engine to get to it.

As SJ says, it's not much, just unbolt the engine from the axle and the transmission, take off the side shields and disconnect everything and swing the whole radiator, engine etc out of the frame. I made a couple of lifting eyes that caught a couple of the valve cover studs each, to hook the lift to. You can also use one piece of heavy angle and catch all 4. As I remember the ideal lifting point is a little offset to one side from the 4 studs down the top of the valve cover, so the angle would be even better than the eyes I made.

The PTO shaft is the longest thing so be careful and go straight back until it clears.

Before you remove it, have you adjusted the free travel at the clutch fingers? Should have about 1/8" or 5/32 clearance there between each finger and the throwout bearing face. Then adjust the linkage rod under the cab if necessary to get enough travel to get it in gear.

For those that don't have a hoist handy or are stuck out in the boonies....there was this option:

Thanks for the information.
We got the engine back far enough to get the disc and pressure plate out.
Now we have to find parts as they are no longer available from Cat.
The disc is warn bad on one side and the pressure plate has some bad cracks.
When we find parts I may be asking again for more help on getting everything lined up.
Thanks again
Bob

If you can't find something locally, I have contact information for a fellow that has one parting out in SC/GA area.

Ours has an aftermarket disk with bonded linings riveted onto the center hub. If the pressure plate got that hot, the springs are probably weak too, but you could probably get replacements from a clutch rebuilder or find similar springs on another piece of farm machinery etc.
