On both the tens and 15's, they typically have their serial number stamped into the cast iron tranmission case. It is located just around the steering clutches cover on the top of the transmission case. More or less between the levers themselve and the adjustment opening. Some brake cleaner and a wire brush should allow you to find it quick. Sometimes they are located on the lower area of the trans case, where the seat sits.

You're right, serial number on the R4 is long gone. Might be stamped under the plate. Whatever it is it belonged the the US Navy, 7th Fleet and had Special Parts.

Never have seen rear hydraulic set up like that.
