I just bought a D6 and I looking for a little info. The SN# is 44A6476 and the model is B2R4123. I was wondering the year, weight and approximate value. It is in fair shape, runs good with a cable dozer and a cab. The only problem that was noted is it needs a new front motor mount. I would appreciate any help I can get

D6B, D333 engine. A modernized 9U size tractor. The D6C was a larger machine and the D5 was (re)introduced as the successor of the D6B.

Front motor mount (bushing assembly 5M2817) is a lot cheaper from Regal than CAT, even CAT Classic line parts. It will be Italian made. I ended up buying 2 lately for different things. Cat used that same part on several engines and one is the D333. It bolts into a different support depending on what machine it is installed in.

When removing the support, keep any shims organized so you can replace them where they came from. Be careful pulling the crankshaft pulley. Do not pull on the outer rim where the belts run, the rim will break quite easily. Instead bolt a puller onto the face of the pulley and possibly use some heat on the hub if it doesn't want to come off when you get it tight. I built a puller out of some 1" plate, a couple of 7/8" nuts and a piece of all thread rod. It doubles as a press plate for the small shop press we have and has several sets of holed drilled in it for pulling various size crankshaft pulleys etc.

The tech manual for the 922 loader warns to support the front cover when pressing the bushing assembly onto the front cover. Easier to do with the front cover off than on:( You may want to replace the front crankshaft seal while you're in the area. Especially after you have to cut the old ring off the front cover. You have to get the bushing pressed on so that the support will be exactly horizontal/parallel with the bottom of the front cover where the oil pan bolts on. That is so it doesn't tear the rubber out when you set the engine down on it if it is cocked to one side.

It may be possible to hammer the thing onto the front cover if you are careful and clean the cover carefully, lube it well and keep it going evenly so it doesn't bind. I don't know. If you break the front cover, I have one.

Thank you so much for the helpful information. It's getting pretty cold up here now, so that job may have to wait tell spring time. By the way do you know the horsepower of that cat? Thanks again

Type of dozer makes a difference (angle dozer is heavier) and you have a cab too, but the tractor, dozer blade and CCU should be in the neighborhood of 24-25,000 pounds if you include fuel and lube and the dirt in the undercarriage etc.

I'm just getting back to working on this before haying starts and i was wondering if there is a blower that fits this motor. If so how hard is it to change and add it?

Thanks

I am guessing your talking about a blower fan for the radiator unless I,m wrong. The Cat dealer should have one and possibly some after market ones are available. It,s a matter of unbolting it and possibly removing the fan guard but isn,t an experts job so it just bolts on to remove. You have to make sure you install it the right way on or it won,t blow the air right. The dish in the blade has to be toward the front of the radiator on a blower fan and also to get it right when the blades are on the top position then the slicing edge is turning into the air first and pushes the air through the radiator or the slicing edge is toward the rear toward the engine. I have seen fans that guys have installed backwards and they just don,t blow the air right. From the operators seat the fan always turns CCW or turns CW looking at it from the front of the radiator.I also needed to say that the fan has a guard surrounding it so they have to be removed so the fan has room to come out. It,s just a screen type and is just bolted to the edges of the radiator.

If you mean a turbocharger, the D333 was available as a turbocharged industrial engine. We have one rated at 200 hp. HOWEVER...........:D

the D6B as a dozer had enough problems with the bevel gear shaft etc at 93hp. For agricultural use, I expect that you could use some extra hp in the higher gears like the D5 SA and D6 SA tractors I believe they were called. they were configured so extra fuel to go along with the turbocharger was only available in the higher gears by way of a solenoid in the injection pump. That D5 would be a similar sized tractor to your 44A. Cooling would probably be the next issue if you did reconfigure the fuel to go along with the extra air from the turbocharger.

I've even heard of some 9U's I believe they were, which had big Detroit Diesels in them and the lower 2 or 3 gears were blocked out completely.
