d6c and d8h question. was created by burson
what year were these tractors buildt, no serial number for the d6c is available. The d8h is 46a16863, would this be direct start or with a gas engine to start the main engine.
What would be the H.P. of each, I'm looking at these tractors for potential farm use. Each will run and operate, the drive train looks to be about 40 to 50% wear. Both are P/shift, straight blade and draw bar.
I personally have not tried the tractors, Also what is the weight of each.
Would the d6 be large enough to push a saw blade and clear land, I have 200 acres of cut-over timberland to clear for pasture.
Appreciate any info anyone can provide.

about what are each of these worth.

The D6C was built from 1968 - 1978 and there were many thousands built all over the world. The 10K series was the most popular here.
Horsepower ranged from 125 -140.
Bare weight approx 30,000 lbs

The D8H horsepower is 270 for that sr. no.
Bare weight about 48,000 lbs
Direct start became standard at sr. no. 24433 (1970)

Please help me correct my info. I'm showing the D6C on a different run than you. 74A & 76A run from 63-67. 10K runs from 67-76. 99J runs from 67-76. If you have more accurate info, I want to correct what I have here.

Yes, I did leave out the 74A/76A models:o :o

Lets see if we can agree on a line up.
Here is what I have for USA machines:

D6B 37A/44A (1959 - 1967)
D6C 74A/76A (1963 - 1967)
D6C 99J (1967 - 1976)
D6C 10K (1967 - 1977)
D6C 17R (1970 - 1976) (Special Applications - Ag)
D6C 69U (1972 - 1977)
D6D 03X (1977 - 1989)
D6D 04X (1977 - 1987)

I'm using the Cat Serial/Product ID numbers for start dates,
The Toughquip buyer guide for production end dates along with the Cat Performance Handbook info from the early 70's.

Either they don't care or they just don't make things like they used to. I'm going off the most current edition (37) of the Caterpillar Performance Handbook and our numbers just don't quite match up. Not a huge deal, I just like accuracy of information. I like your numbers that come from sources closer to the time that the machines were made. They were forced to be accurate at that point. They probably just figure that nobody's working with those machines anymore. Thanks for the clarification.

That is a problem.....none of these sources are accurate 100% of the time:rolleyes:  Kinda comes down to what you want to believe.

I never made a count of the D6C's but I would not be surprised to find it to be the most produced Cat model......but I am just guessing:D :D

bruder9...unfortunately the cat performance handbook has never been a very reliable source of information for "former models".
