1941 D8 Caterpillar Snow Plow, No Reserve! Item number: 180068150268

Frank Buck has the following item listed on e-Bay:

Description

Serial Number 8R61. This caterpillar was ordered new with a LaPlant-Choate snow plow. It was ordered new for the town of Columbia, New York in Herkimer County. It still has its original snow cleat tracks and wooden cab, which was removed. It shows 832 hours on the meter, and judging the undercarriage it seems accurate. The V snow plow is at McFadden Equipment in Sharon Springs, New York, and is available to go with the crawler that is located in Gettysburg, PA.

The tractor will run with a pull start, and operates and steers. The buyer will be responsible for the loading of the LaPlant-Choate V plow at McFadden’s Equipment in New York. We can assist in the loading of the D8. Photos display the crawler with the snow plow attached.

My comments:

He has the entire wood cab, which is only good enough to be used as a pattern for a new wood cab. The plow and two wings are at MacFadden’s at Sharon Springs, New York, outside of Albany. In order to secure the plow, it will have to be cut (torched) in half and re-welded on site.

I’ve seen this tractor, but before any work was done on it. I also saw it later when MacFadden had it at a show. It runs well.

Bidding ends on January 5th (I think).

So far here in my area in N.E. Pa. we have had no snow just a few flurries which is very uncommon this time of year. I suppose we,ll get hit hard when it does come.Frank has or did have the Peterbilt dealership here in the Poconos, I guess he still owns it.I had to go up one time & check out a new truck with a Cat engine in it at the dealership garage.

The D8 cab looks the same as I spend time in 50 years ago. The same from front & sides but the rear window didn't seem that wide. Of course the 1939 D6/RD6 was not as wide. That D6 was also used for plowing snow, the inside the noisy but quieter with the doors open or running on snow. Thanks the opportunity to see the pictures. Clay

The snow grousers seem to be removable.

That tractor makes me think about taking them off and fitting it with street pads for local parades.

Hummm.

Only one day to think about it…

I have seen a couple like this. Bob Stewart used to own them and maybe still does. I think they were 7s though. I reember one had a small pot belly stove in it. I have a picture of a different snow plow I will try and post. My grandfather used do plow with a Cat 60. Standing on the running boards to raise and lower the wings and blade.
