Replied by SJ on topic Thermo. Ring
Timbo I know what you mean by the ring coming out hard. Even with the special puller we had at the shop I pulled many of them that the puller bent the ring trying to get it out.I never could figure why it had to be so tight a fit.

I used to think the later flange retained regulators were great.....until I tried to get a stuck one out....there's nothing to get a hold of:(

I now provide a small recess under the edge so that they can be pried out.

Hi timbo1946,

Yes, I made pretty good progress last week, in fact, I have the engine together as far as I can go at this point. From here on I have to start making special equipment--bell housing adaptor, PTO, front mounts, intake manifold modification, fuel filter modification, all machine work. I have it off the bench and sitting blocked up on the floor now. I have to make a double ring adaptor before i put the flywheel housing and flywheel on. I can't check the timing until I have the flywheel on, so I'm stopped at the moment.

O.M. and SJ,

I pulled three rings in one afternoon by tapping on them for a bit, soaking them with penetrating oil, leaving for a half hour, then do it all again. The little slide hammer work fair, not great. There isn't much room for a hook and I kept straightening the hook out. It was a cobbled up puller but it eventually did the job. All three rings were distorted. All three straightened out OK by puting a half-inch steel plate over them on the anvil and whacking the plate with a two-pound hammer. My idea of precision forming.:D

Jack,
Sounds like your making good progress, can't wait to here how it turns out.

I think I have most of my pony issues behind me now. Finished putting back together Friday night. New rings, new valve and grind on the others. Installed on Saturday morning before having to leave for to help out with project Graduation at school. Got home a 6:00 am this morning and still couldn't sleep so went to play with the cat. Buttoned it up completly and went for a ride to an old stump pile. Spent about 45 minutes pushing things around not realy doing much but it sure was fun. Put the D2 back in the barn waited a few minutes and the pony started back up, so I'm fairly happy. Pony does't run as well as I would like but seams to be getting a little better each time, going to leave it alone for now. I want to get some time on the main, too must no load time on it already. Going to take the cat back to the spot I was pushing the pear stumps out last year and put on the disk (12 footer), that will make her work, just have to wait for the rain to stop now. Would like to thank everyone for the ideas and input, I sure has helped. Will get som pics to post when the Cat goes out to play.
Tim
