I need help! Trying to remove sleeve on D6600 3 cyl engine out of D6-2H. I got the stuck piston out of the hole and now am trying to remove the sleeve. I made a puller out of 1" thick by 2" wide steel bar. Hole drilled in center and bars located top and bottom, 3/4 all thread used as puller bolt. Top bar was spaced up 1/2" from top of sleeve to allow sleeve to move that far. Put enough pressure on it to start to bend bars and it didn't move at all! Any ideas or suggestions??????????????:confused:

Hi beaver flat,
Ya got the right technique but it needs more beef:D :D
I have some service manuals showing the use of Cats 30 ton hollow piston hydraulic cylinder being used along with a heavy step plate puller that just clears the liner bore and picks up the liner wall for pulling. Be careful you don't bugger up the bore (or yourself) with those home made pullers.

how thick are the sleeves? Looking from the bottom, it appears the liner is around 1/4" thick and protrudes about an inch below the block. Does this sound right?
If I'm, heading in the right direction, I'll probably have the local machine shop make a step-plate for the bottom that fits into the bore and increase the all-thread to 1". Sure thought they would come out easier though???:(

The 1/4 inch liner wall sounds about right but I think your a little rich on the protrusion dimension but that shouldn't make any difference pulling wise.

Your right OM sometimes it takes lots of power to get a liner moving esp. if it had set for awhile & the bottom seals get dried out & hard & also the crud that builds up down in the bottom of a block around the liner area.With todays antifreeze & additives it,s not quite the problem it once was.Changing coolant by todays standards helps to illiminate it too.I don,t have the liner bore depth on this engine but as you said OM 1" is a little high as the D343 is .526 so it would bein about that range.So to pull liners like this heavy duty pulling tools is needed esp. when they,re corroded in.
