D42T Transmission Cover

Hi Everyone-
Took some time last night to look under the transmission cover to see what it was going to take to replace the control arm roller bearings and races.

Very pleased I did. The rollers were shot-rusted-crumbling. The outer races inside the transmission cover came out pretty nicely. Those were pitted by no means smooth for the rollers. I ran a bead on the inside and used an old socket that was the perfect diameter to use as a punch. The second one came out without heat-just the socket and a 2LB hammer.

I have the replacement bearings and races-the new roller bearings, (CAT), seem to be a little bigger in diameter that the original and good quality. The races, (CAT), seem to be much smaller and not as heavy in thickness. Paired, they seem to fit fine. The replacement races are slit so they compress to the size of the hole. I think a continuous annular race would be better.

I am currently soaking the control arm bracket in citric acid along with the sleeves for the control arm linkage bolts and the lever are trunions. We will see how the clean up.

I have attached link to Picture Trail for recent photos under "Transmission Cover".

Good work:) :)
That's another Cat design disaster where open bearings with no provision for lube die in a corrosive environment.
