D7E Leaking final drive

Hi Everybody, been a member of the forum for a while but haven't posted much.

I've got a couple of questions though that hopefully you can help me with.

I bought a D7E this spring with rebuilt final drives and rebuilt motor. It's been working good till recently the right side final drive has started seeping oil. It's not leaking from inside the sprocket but from the outside seal. By the tightening nut for the bearing. Is it posible that over greasing has caused this. I did find some grease around the seal at the bottom. At least it felt like grease.

This little bit of a leak isn't going to really hurt anything correct??

Any sujestions on fixing it other then tearing it apart and replacing the seal?? It feels as though the seal has been pushed out because I can push it back in by hand a little bit.

Here's a couple of pics to show what I'm talking about. Just to try and clear up all my rambling.:p

This is taken from the bottom looking up on the right side.

Here's a picture of the ol E at work last spring just after I got it. It's been upgraded with a high horse direct start engine that was rebuilt this spring.

Nice D7:) :)
That's not a serious leak....and yes over pressure greasing may have caused the seal to push out. The outer track frame bearing would have to come off for access.
I'd live with it until more serious undercarriage work is required.

Thanks Old Magnet. I haven't greased it much at all. But it's posible that the mechanic may have greased it a bit to much or else the extra shot or two that I put in after I got it and put a few hours on it may have done it.

Only other problem I've had with it so far is the one transmision line to the oil cooler cracked and started leaking bad. So I replaced that with a rubber hose. I did the other line as well while I was at it because it had been brazed up before. Cost quite a bit to do it as I had to get fittings machined and silver soldered on to do it but it should be good for life now.

I'm planing on running it for about 400 hrs or so then swaping the old u/c out for new. Or really good used. The rails are good yet but the bottom and top rollers are starting to get to the end of thier life. It'll probably go longer then that but I figure by then it will have earned enough of it's keep to get treated to some new parts.:D
