Got a little time to give the D2 some luvin... I’m sure I have remove D2 injectors before but maybe I was working on a bare head. This time I need to pull injector and prechamber on #1.

I see I can make a tool by cutting up a socket, piece of pipe etc. Before I do that I want to ask if there is another option I’m not aware of. ?

Also, if I understand, once I remove the injector there is a good chance ill need to make another tool to remove the prechamber- is this correct ? ( I read sometimes they come out together ?)

Thanks all.

There’s an original CAT tool that you put a bar through the hole in the top to turn.

Look at Tobys YouTube video squatch253 he shows disassembling a D3400 head including removing the injectors and precombustion chambers

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Thanks to squatch253 on YouTube I made a removal socket for the injector. I watched his video and his come out with little effort. Of course, mine is stuck. My plan is daily soaking and tapping with a blunt nose rod. I hate to try a cheater bar with only part of a 12 pt socket grabbing the nut surface.

When the injector assembly comes out ill need a prechamber tool also. Can one be made without a mill ? Looks like a LOT of force must be applied to get that out.

Thanks all.

Ok got my injector out after several days of soaking and tapping - and a 18” breaker bar. The injector looks real good ( I think) and when I look into the pre com chamber it looks good too ( I think ).

From reading and watching videos it seems there are two types of pre com chambers ? One is threaded and one has a hex shoe inside - yes ?

Mine is threaded - no place to insert a tool. I read some old posts that had no pictures, I need to thread into the pre com chamber and pull it out - correct ? Or does it unscrew from the head ?

Attached is a pic of my chamber viewed from above

You need to use this tool with an open center hyd ram or a steel tube and a "bridge" over the chamber.

Thank you Rome K\G. It makes sense to me.

So, the pre chamber is just pressed in place (?) no other items to remove - “just” pull it out ?

Will I be able to reinstall the new PC while on the machine or does a press have to be used. If I have to press it in I may as well remove the head now and verify head gasket is not the problem.

Last question ( for this post : ) : can you tell me the size and thread pitch of the tool that threads into the PC ?

Thank you for the help

Those might also have a allen screw on the side of the head to keep them in, not sure on yours.

I checked the parts book diagram and you are correct about the set screw. Thanks

For anyone who knows: will the new ( or maybe old but good ) precombustion Chamber just push in or must it be pressed in ?

Also: any have the internal dimension of the PC threads so I can make that tool. ?

Thanks all

I think I’ve seen a reference to driving them in with a driver and a hammer

The injector you removed should have the threads that match the chamber?
