The nozzle capsules are probably bad, replace all those first. 105 ft lbs for nozzle retainer nut, hand tight for nozzle adapter to nozzle.

agreed Gary, excellent starting point and will give more of an idea on the rest of the engine condition....impossible to have a good running diesel with poor injectors...

always dropping GOLD, all you have to do is just pick it UP !

GG it's direct electric start, the pony was clapped out when I bought it (tried to get it going again, but my luck with gas engines is about like that of a dinosaur in a meteor shower lol and I don't have patience for them 😂). Just put the conversion on it and so far I love it! I don't like using ether, but it doesn't take much and the cost of it was the same if not less than rebuilding the pony. I wanted to put it back original, but pony parts are hard to find and the motors don't have a long service life even when taken care of plus it's just another motor to keep up.

I'm not crazy about the new site for that reason and others; I'm from Kentucky.

Rome K/G I replaced all of them already and it didn't seem to help, went by the book too and even put new O-rings under the retainers and lines.

How tight should the lines be?

Thank you all for all the help!

I've been working 90+ hour weeks the past month with no end in sight for a few more months, but as soon as I get some time (Sundays are about it for right now) I'll tinker with it some more and see if I can get it straightened out.

I understand completely where you're coming from on the direct start. but as a collector and infrequent dirt mover, I find a big part of the appeal of these beauties in firing up the crazy barking pony and turning over the big motor -- with a rope or crank start of the pony a satisfying plus.

I agree, but I need the machine for some work (which was a reason I bought it) and need it to be ready to go for right now. I still have the pony along with 2 others like it and will eventually fix them when I get the time and money, but for now practicality outweighs nostalgia.

They definitely bark! Dad had a John Deere 720 diesel with one and man did it roar!

As i have posted before - i purchased a neglected D6 that puked an incredible amount of spooge out the stack. Only after several hours ( 5 or 6) of pulling a BIG disc around did it go away. And - incredibly- never came back.
