In my quest to stay busy with yellow iron projects, I have decided to mount up a spare tool bar set up for one of my D2s. I noticed that the trunnion holes have a taper. The correct CAT part numbers per the book are 3F6697. Are these bolts still available anywhere? Or has anyone used a regular grade 8 bolt and found a taper lock similar to those on a semi truck axle to make do?
How about the "strips" seen in the book? What is/are the purpose? I am not understanding what for, and do not recall ever seeing any of them on any of my other machines.
There are part #s 5F4776 is that really just a flat washer? Then I see 5F6653 and 1H1103; are these really just shims?
Sorry for the lame questions, but I just soon button this up correctly the first time, rather than have issues later.

So we're supposed to guess what your working on? No tractor s/n, no tool bar s/n?
Tapping strips (not shims) are for use when the track frames are not threaded for the attachment bolts.
I'm not aware of any taper locks for 3/4 NC bolts.

I didn’t post a tractor serial or one for the trunnions, correct. Tractor serial could range from 5U1600 to 16,xxx , or even 4U147x. I haven’t decided yet. No numbers on any of the toolbar goodies that I am aware of, as of now, they will stay in the corner until it’s time.
All I can say is, D2 tool bar group, the one that uses trunnion balls, not the swing swivel bracket.
Just trying to gather up a few pieces to make life easier.

3F6697 Bolts are still available, it’s be awhile, but I think Cat wanted $15 each..... I got a set from NorCan Parts and Equipment in Spokane, Wa. They were aftermarket, cost was somewhere in the $7 range when I brought them. They had to order them, as they don’t keep them in stock. My D4 7U had the threaded holes in the frame, still had the cork in the holes...maybe early D2’s were just a hole ??? Then the strip w/ nut, would make sense on the backside of the frame. Would be easy enough to make the strip w/nut
I see where you’re going with the 3/4 bolt and the cone washer idea.....thought of going that way, til I found the bolts at Norcan.

Do you have a source for 3/4" hardened cone washers. I have a couple but never could find a part number or source.

try any good bolt supplier they should be able to source something. or get some turned up out of high carbon steel and get them heat treated
