Is there a shutoff switch. In short how do you shut off the engine?

Just push the throttle lever forward.

Bruce, it has a detent at low idle, you have to give the lever a shove past that detent to reach shut-off

if its like the 6/7u models there is also a detent for full throttle if you go past that you get full fuel for starting. i didnt know about that until someone showed me, it started much easier after that.

that's interesting, a full throttle detent for starting a diesel?? for at least a couple reasons, maybe more....

1) in my experience, i've never found full throttle to be better starting a cold diesel engine or gasoline..
2) i don't like shrapnel flying about and picking up pieces and putting them in a bucket etc...

always dropping GOLD, all you have to do is just pick it UP !

its sort of like choke on a petrol.
all computerised engines do it automatically and as soon as it fires deliver normal fuel amounts. even the mechanical bosch ve type pump on the old ute does it but its regulated by coolant temp and a temp sensitive valve.
many older diesels start easier this way, you must be on the ball to throttle back straight away. lack of oil isnt a issue with pilot start cats as you will have built oil pressure before starting. yes it can be a issue with direct start equipment.

also remember the lever at the seat works different to the lever on the governor due to the linkage.
