Has cat ever contemplated or designed an engine for light duty (3/4-1 ton) pickups? Just curious, see lots of cummins in the Dodges and I think international builds the Ford engine for that size of truck.

Check out the thread on 1-5-07 For Sale Wanted under 3054 engine as there was a short discussion on that engine but it,s only a small 4 cyl. used in Cat loaders. As for Cat bringing out one the size you ask about I haven,t heard of any but there could be something in the engineering dept.but don,t know.I saw a new Cadallic pickup truck at the Cat dealer that had what was the 3126 (6 cyl.) engine in it but they have changed the numbers of the truck engines to a C prefix then the number so it could be for example a C-10 or C-11 I don,t have the info. on what it is now.

There were a few 1 ton chevy's built with the 3116 engine. This was a little heavy and the torque broke the frames on those pickups therefore they were never put in to production. The 3116 evolved into the 3126. The 3126 evolved into the C-7 ACERT. This is a very good small cat engine used in a lot of medium duty trucks. (Top Kicks, Kodiaks, and the like) Hope this helps.

I am employed by a local municipality in the Bay Area and I haul a Toro Gang gangmower with a Cat engined Topkick. Great engine. Hauls that big gangmower like nothing. Cat engines rule!!

Back in the early 80s a relative that worked for Cat brought one of these home. He got to run it for a month or so. It was better than the pickup diesels at the time. But you could really feel the heavy front end on it when you were makinga slow turn with it. But I think the one I got to try was a Ford not a Chevy.
