An additional note on the ACF Cats - i have asked him to share photos:

"FYI. The original Ordnance Department PO was for 8400 D7. We have a ACF factory photo of one with a sign “10,000th”. We found correspondence in the ACF Archives at the University of Missouri -St Louis that indicate over 21,000. I do not currently have s copy of that document. There is also correspondence in the UM-SL archives that indicate Caterpillar was not happy with this arrangement and would not allow ACF to take photos of the Caterpillar D7 being built in the ACF factory. We do have ACF factory photos of the D7s in the ACF yard.  Also, a few years back I contacted the Caterpillar Corporate Curator. She confirmed they were aware that ACF built “some” D7 but Caterpillar did not track the serial numbers because those tractors were not “theirs” (Caterpillar’s)."

Great article. It’s a pity though the last picture is (I think) an IH TD18 not a D7.

Interesting Kurt, what publication did that article appear in, out of interest?
