For many years, I used to wash, dry air filter elements, with a small firefighter engine (5HP Honda, and low pressure 2" centrifugal pump), using a ¾" hose with a tapered nozzle made from a steel kitchen chair leg.
I had a 200 gallon steel galvanised tank, and it was filled with water and a couple of cupfuls of household washing powder (OMO, Rinso, or whatever gave you the whitest brightest whites! .. :D )
The firefighter gave a steady squirt of water at relatively low pressure, and the washing powder took all the greasy oily dirt out.
The only problem with this system, is you need high ambient temps, for the most operator comfort, and effective element cleaning and drying.
I'd do numerous elements during Summer, dry them and store them, and use them over Winter, when water washing wasn't a real popular job, and it took too long for elements to dry .. or they had to be heated to dry.

However, this chore was abandoned, when a professional filter cleaning co came along, and offered a service that was more economic, produced a better result .. and they guaranteed their work. I think they used a wash process, but it was a little more sophisticated than mine .. :D

196200 & OzDozer , in the U.K. a well used trick (years ago) by wayward wifes , was to place a packet of " OMO " in the window of the house to signal to the boyfriend " OLD MAN OUT ", I hope you kept your eye on the washing powder OzDozer.

TC, TC, TC,

Now I have 2 reasons for not doing the filter cleaning. What did the OMO product stand for (the real name now).

By the way, the fuel injector was not the flat plat variety so no way to check for water in the fuel. At least that way anyway. It's going to be 50 deg F and dry later this week so I can myself sitting in the CAT seat.:)

Tony - Hmmm .. interesting slant on the OMO. Now, you've got me watching for windows with OMO packets in them .. :D :D

196200 - I have no idea how the OMO name came about .. I guess it would have been as a result of a brainstorming session by those ogres known as "advertising men" .. :D

These are the same people who choose oddball car names with great care .. with variations in names from country to country, depending on how it rolls off the local tongue .. how acceptable the name is locally .. what it could possibly be rhymed with .. or how it could be misconstrued .. :D
