Woo-hoo! .. thanks to Eddie for the pointer .. here's the scan from that Feb 6th, 1940, Service Magazine.

Brad - The scan shows the exact same toolbox as you have, making it an early model, rather than a later one, as I originally thought.
This dates your toolbox more precisely in between 1940 and 1953 .. and more likely in the 1940's. The Blackhawk decal is visble on the 1953 Service Tool scan, but it's not on the 1940 S.M. scan .. thus indicating that maybe, the late 1940's as a likely age, for your toolbox.

Eddie's spot-on with his info .. the toolboxes have always been available as a separate purchase item, without any tools.
I could never afford a full set of Cat tools and toolbox .. :D .. I always just bought the toolbox, and selected Cat tools, and then filled it with tools of other brands.
The problem with purchasing Cat tools is it's an expensive way to buy them, compared with getting the same item from the original vendor. I've actually scored a few nice new Cat tools off eBay, for prices that were a fraction of Cat asking prices.

Great tool box----I remember using Blackhawk tools back in the early 60's. Should still have a few end wrenches----but as with all tools that I purchased, germination on the Blackhawk's wasn't any better than the rest. Seems that I was always planting them in one place or the other.:D

I do think that it would be appropriate to place the "Mississippi style gear puller" laying there on the work bench in this tool box for safe keeping. If the truth was known----some of them ol boys over there in Oz Land have probably used a claw hammer for a gear puller also.

Take care of the box----looks like its a keeper.
