D6-9U Track Spring question

More

This is your track frame and recoil spring configuration (same as I sent before)
The spring is used on the late 9U, the D6C and D5 with the installed length mentioned. Forget about installing that other stuff and get the correct match parts.

Sure King come on down fer' some fun. We can arrange all the beverages you can handle.
OM, that last shot is past my Ser # of 29187, first on is right on . But got my book now. So, looks like the springs that I have are for earlier serial #'s only. damnation, done it again, wrong part(s).
Got some quoted at $ 650 for each and that is the whole assembly. Anyone want mine for the same price? they are in Xcellent shape (really). See photos on previous pages of this post.
Moral of the story is that sometimes an inch makes a big difference.:D

Just for fun and since you all have been soooo helpful, here's a pic of the fabrication of brackets for the root rake recently acquired. Note: it too is the wrong size about a foot short of each side of the blade..:p

Yellercat,
Don't be so picky on the info:) The only difference on that spring assembly cut sheet is the front idlers changed to the floating metal type seals. The rest is the same as yours. (from 28328-to end of production)

By whole assembly, is that from rear plate to adjuster screw, ready to mount and connect to idler yokes???

To bad on that root rake;) must be that tape measure your using:)

KoO,
You would melt down there for sure:D :D
I have no doubt you could "rig something up" but know that the only interchangeable part number between old and new assemblies is the guide.
And if you did mount the old type double spring units back in there. (I'm sure it can be done) you now have an inferior design as the new units have provision for stops to take care of the old problem of spring bolt breakage plus the new guides restrain the assembly and helped solve the adjuster screw jack knifing that also was also a problem.
Also when you were done adapting you would have an odd ball arrangement that only the fabricator could identify for future work.

ok this is getting carried away, the spring sets are worth more then my insured value of my cat. ok lets just replace the spring with what you have or can get with in reason, (no chrome needed here)used will do, if the spring sliders need to be replaced a little welding is no problem. the main thing here is to get this 50 year old cat up and running to do the work around the ranch. most likely the spring has been broken for 20 years, just put the cover back on and use the cat until you can find a good parts machine for around $1500.00 usa money.
yellercat, if your wife finds out how much money you are spending on this cat, you will be dining in some very fancy restaurts (where they park your car for you) for a long time, LOL i'll be joining you too as long as the place has AC and lots of ice in the drinks, LOL

OM - that is the springs less the adjusters, but with the thru bolts and guides, ready to set on the track frames. KoO , yep she does question my (in)sanity when specific questions surface, like " you mean you paid........." and since we have a "total honesty policy" eye can not lie. Seems easier to take small beatings throughout the year than let them build up and get Killed at the end of the year! LOL
BTW, eye am not averse to back yard mechanicin' and all my parts don't have 2 B unused, but eye really want to keep this girl to the end and want them tracks done rite. No snow here, but we got 50 acres to groom to a park like finish, and eye think once on the tracks will be enough for me, what with tractors and other machinery to keep goin 2.
Ya'll excuse me now, gotta trade the radiator on the 4020 and rebuild the power steering sector before the hay comes on.
tanks for all the advice, will proudly display the track change as it progresses. yellercat

excellent, we will need lots of pictures of the fancy restaurnt that you take the wife too. plus pictures of the spring swap, it will be an easy job, just a little welding required. oile down the take up bolt and bolts so they get a goo soaking before you get in to the project.

It's much easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission.....
