Just curious. Did Caterpillar ever equip their ag tractors with factory PTO's or power take offs like wheeled farm tractors??

Bruce and Darrol- nice pics look forward to seeing more.

Jim- on the old model 35 which had a 30 inch wide seperator compared to 36in on the model 36 (the width of the 36 may be different but thats what I remember) they ran a 14' header on it and actually cut a 76bu crop with it one year around 1960. (that was considered an unbelievable yield back then)

member2103- no I never heard of any PTO on them

Member 2103 Yes cat had an option for PTO's on the D2's, D4's D6's and the gas tractors, but I have only seen one out here on a d2 in the California delta running a lift pump. Heck we don't even use the PTO's on most of our wheel tractors.

Here are some California equipment

Deere 9520T pulling a 6 bottom Wilcox plow on already subsoiled ground.

Cat D6C 17R pulling AC 600 subsoiler & Schmiser ring roller. Typically pulled in 1st gear 1st pass at 18" - 24" deep second pass usually 2nd gear and 4" -6" deeper than first pass.

D5B in background with custom ditch closer / ridger, fore ground Oxnard GWO 12' stubble disc, pulled by a D6C / D6D in third gear. Challenger 55 can't pull this at full depth in heavy clay.

CAT d5 21j pulling IH vibra chisel and schmiser 16' ring roller.

D7 discing peat/clay. currently 8' below sea level.

Yup. Had one on my 7U......cut a lot of hay with it running a JD No. 5 mower.
Here is a shot of a PTO on a D2 running a mower.

In this shot, the Holt combine being pulled by the D2 has it's own motor, but the smaller combine in the middle & the spud digger at the top are both run
by PTO from the D2. The unit I had on my 7U was a two speed set up.

CR- nice pics, interesting to see that equipment being pulled that is completely different than anything we have. I assume that is irrigated ground, what crops are grown? Are there many steel tracked cats still running in that area?

98J- thanks the green and yellow paint helped :) I dont mind a few red ones though I was just giving you a hard time.
I was wondering though, I realize most of the cat pics you have are a few years old. Out of those cats in your pics (D5B, D6C, D6B, older D5 with JD plows) how many are still running now? No-till looks like the way to go in your area as your crops appear to be outstanding and there would be a definite savings on tractor hours/diesel.
