cat 10 motor freeze up

I have the head off my cat 10 and if I don't turn the crank once a week the engine freezes up. I have been working on the engine for awhile now but am afraid to button it up for fear of it freezing up after the head is torqued down. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Get it running, If its a new/tight engine you will need to put a few hours of work on it to break it in. In any case getting it running is the best way to pollish things up. You can also use Marine fogging oil when you shut it down for storage.

That seems like an odd one but maybe try spraying some Kroil or another good lubricant on top the pistons just before you put it away & turn the engine over a couple times to lubricate the cyl. walls & rings & see if that helps.

Thanx Steve A & SJ for your reply but I have already been using PB Blaster quite a bit. That stuff has been great for my stubborn rings but it seems that the engine is now giving me attitude. Gotta be a better solution; using a bottle jack and logging chain is getting tiresome.

Why not change the PB blaster for motor oil once you get it free? I'm not real familiar with the stuff, but it doesn't sound like a lubricant as much as a rust disolving solution.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Do you really think it is the pistons & rings causing your problem for sure? At the dealer when Kroil came out Cat sold it over the counter & we found it to be very good & it,s got a heavier thickness to it than other fluids like WD-40 or some other sprays.I know it,s been mentioned by a few on here of the PB Blaster but I have never had any experience with it so can,t say anything about it.Cat dealers did sell the Kroil but is sold the last I knowed under the Cat part number. As I mentioned before maybe you,ll have to put enough on top the pistons so when you turn the engine over a few times it will lubricate the walls & ring lands & rings so when it sets it will stay lubricated. Boy it still puzzles me with your problem.
