Grease for my '50 D6 9U rollers...00 or what?

I'll post here & couple other places.....
How I tell which rollers my machine has?
A few months ago someone was looking my tractor over & as I recall mentioned that it had newer rollers, or upgraded rollers on it, or updated, or something.
My books & other info say to use 00 grease in the Button Head fittings on my rollers & idlers.
As I understand, the 00 grease has a sticky characteristic to it that helps etc.

Anyway, I been fiddling with this thing & now getting ready to start working it.....trying to get things greased & ready.
Every roller on it has regular threaded plugs with square head (for 3/8 ratchet or something)
I don't know if it has different (newer style) rollers that's been changed out along the way, or if just different plugs in them????
The front idler is the only thing I've found that has Button Head fitting on it.

Anyway, kinda like to do things right. Easier & cheaper to learnright way now, vs learn right way after I've tore everything up....

Square or hex head plugs indicate new style rollers with 30wt drive train oil. These can be refilled with a fill adapter on a pump. This is not supposed to be necessary for the "life" of the roller, but you can buy a tool to remove the plug and the filling tool that fills the roller to the correct level with oil before it runs out the plug hole. The plug is usually hard to get out, that's the reason for the tool.

The rollers and other fittings that have button heads take the 00 lube. In your case I would not buy a 30 pound bucket of lube just for the front idlers, instead you could use a ball and roller bearing grease you can purchase in tubes and use a standard grease gun with the button head coupler on the hose instead of the normal coupler. If you want to use 00, you can purchase 00 corn head grease in tubes from an ag equipment dealer or probably other sources.

Look up the fittings on the clutch if yours still has the dry clutch and make sure to get them all including the one for pilot bearing on the outside edge of the flywheel. Also check out the waterpump fitting, one to grease and one to vent the old grease.

Caution with the button head fittings and using a grease gun on them. The hand grease gun puts out enough presure to blow out your seals on button head greased rollers and front idler bearings. As soon as pressure is starts to build while pumping with the grease gun on the button head fitting, stop pumping.:eek:

I been so busy last few days I nearly haven't had time to respond.
Yeah, an old grease gun I have had a smaller buttonhead fitting on & none of us knew what it was or for, so it hung on the shop wall for years. Every now & then we'd stop & look at it & marvel about how neat & pretty it was....didn't know what it was, but decided it was a "keeper."
& just think, if I hadn't bought that 9U last year for my wifey for our anniversary last year, I might still not know what a "buttonhead" fitting is...:D
