Need help with ID of brass instruction plate?

I hope the experts can help me. I found a small brass plate [3" X 1.5"] wedged in the floor panel on the clutch side of my PV15 serial #PV2130. It reads:

"CAUTION
do not run with pedal
down except for very
short periods."

It has part number 1A1690 {?} in the lower right corner. I assume it is a clutch warning plate. However, I have not seen this plate on any other PV15 tractors. I also cannot find four rivet holes in the firewall or floor where this would have been installed. I'm trying to figure out if it goes with this tractor and if so, where do I put it? Any help is appreciated!

Chugwater Crawlers,

Is this the data plate you are talking about? I took this a number of years ago. It was on a TEN. But I'll be honest with you and say that I don't remember exactly where it was located. I am pretty sure it was on the floor panel directly below the clutch pedal. I am also pretty sure that this TEN had a belt pulley. The rivets you see above the brass plate are for the clutch pedal lock mechanism used when engaging the belt pulley.
Only machines that came with belt pulleys were equiped with a special clutch pedal and a pedal lock. (like right brake pedal and lock) Standard machines do not have this setup. My TEN does not have it.

Maybe someone else will verify that. (or confirm that my memory is indeed failing !!)

i didnt know what is was for till now, only the pto is not anymore on my machine, and the pedal is changed (i think after the pto was taken off.)as i can not lock it anymore,
why would you lock it?? if you didnt need pto power?? you could switch the pto off with the handel, ????

MARCOTEN,

I will try to explain to the best of my knowledge. I am only going by drawings in the parts book and the microfiche. I have not operated a Caterpillar with a belt pulley.

Tractors with belt pulleys did not have the engaging lever in front of the seat. Only tractors with PTO's had that. I see two types of belt pulleys in the attachments book. One looks like it was engaged full time. The other has an engaging lever on the left side of the belt pulley housing. With the machine running, you pushed in the clutch, locked it in, got off the machine, walked around to the belt pulley and engaged the drive lever on the housing. Then you could get back on the tractor and let the clutch out. This completed the belt pulley drive sequence. That is how I understand the belt pulley's worked.
The cutaway drawings pretty much show how and why it was done that way.

Can anyone with a belt pulley equiped tractor verify this?

My 8C20 has the PTO with the lever. It is hard to engage it from the seat. It does not have the locking lever for the pedal like my PV15 does. I think Pat is right. With the square seat back on a PV15 or a TEN it would be about impossible to get to the PTO lever while seated on the tractor.

I plan to put the plate back on my PV15. If I end up not using Wally has dibs on it. Wally I sent you an email.
