Guys I work with are diehard "Red" tractor fans. I grew up on yellow crawlers and green tractors. When I hauled my D2 home from MI it has red paint. It doesn't run which I didn't care but I complained about the RED paint that is on it!
I've seen that company color scheme stuff before, it works great when something gets stolen and on its way to be repainted for helping with ID.

This is a pretty interesting discussion and I'd like to add to it... My first rememberence about color changes of equipment was when I was 8 or 9 years old. A couple of manager type guys, (with financial backing) started up an excavation company in NW Ohio. The main backer was a woman and as part of the deal, she required all of the iron to be painted a "lavender" color. I remember this well because the IUOE Local 18 Hall sent my Dad out to run a D-7 on one of this new outfit's subdivision jobs. As soon as he saw the D-7, he turned around and went back to the Hall and got back on the out-of-work list. He told the Business Rep he wasn't running any "purple" dozers...

The company didn't take long to fail as it was extremely difficult to fill the seats with the best of Operators.

Then there was Morrison-Knudson, or as we used to call them, MK. They were one of the top contractors in the world at one time and every Operator I knew always wanted to work for them. They had a paint color choice that was between yellow and brown. Maybe some of the more seasoned guys such as D-8 Bob know of this. It was kind of like a baby s**t brown/yellow color and MK painted ALL of their equipment, trucks, offices and everything they owned this color. It didn't matter if it was CAT, Terex, Bucyrus-Erie, Link-Belt or Lima or what ever, it got the same paint job as soon as they bought it. We used to call it an MK overhaul. The machine may need major work, but they'd steam it, tighten the bolts, paint it and put it back to work. Their Master Mechanic said they did a study and proved that an Operator was more efficient on a freshly painted machine. And.... I think they may be right. I didn't care much for the shade of yellow, but I always seemed to be in top form when I worked for MK.

Then there's Kokosing in Ohio. They, like MK have a unique paint job that's not much different from MK's. Not quite as brown as MK's. Kokosing also paints everything the same color. Or it seems that's what I've observed.

Thanks for listening..

The color red goes back along way in our family. My grandfather started out as a firemen on a streamshovel in the early 20's and always like the color red from the fire,so when he started his own company in 1925 he just painted everything red.
