OM,
Is this one of those cases where some other manufacturing operation was performed on the cast part,or other pieces added, so it became another part number as a result?

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Yah, I thought about that, always risky going by casting part numbers. I'll let Mike do his thing for awhile then ask him again. I did tell him the number was on the part.

Cat always put casting numbers on a casting or parts but if just one little change or extra part was part of the assembly then they changed the part number & you didn,t go by the casting number for the part number. Normally the Cat NPR always changed over a bare casting part number to an assembly number if these extra parts were part of the casting or bare part.

and now we get the rest of the story.

All of the filter info is great

Well it looks like the spin on filter option is a dead end. Cat, including Peoria has never had that part number in their system...so I'm told. Kept getting asked why anyone would even want the upside down version. Maybe they are right.

I think OM I,d just go with the full flow changeover as it,s a proven changeover & you just remove the top to change the element & your in business again.

OM and SJ I have to agree...that upside down spin on seems a crazy idea to me even if there is a drain plug it's still going to be messy..less mess just changing an element.

The thought just occurred to me ("ouch") that I see the word "Purolator" embossed on a couple of the filter housings I have so they must have been a buy out for Cat. Could be the missing part number match was an after market item supplied through Puralator. If someone wants to chase that option (not me) the answer might just be out there.

C.D. This is your adopted cousin K.Hunter from back in eastern Pa. & Cat years ago made a full flow kit to change over the by-pass to full flow but as of now I understand only separate parts are available to do it. At the shop I changed over dozens of them over to the full flow & they worked out good.It only has the element to change & not the screen in it to have to wash out so saves some time & mess. I like the handle you use on the site here.I shortened mine to SJ as it used to be Stumpjumper & got it from an old welder that used to work with me & he called this other good friend of his a Stumpjumper or a Ridge Runner as he lived up in the mountain section here in NE PA.

How are you doing cousin SJ? I hope all is well with you back in Pa.
