Castle Cement, Ketton Working Weekend 23 & 24 June - Cancelled!

More

Please be aware that the Chapter 2 Working Weekend scheduled to occur this weekend at Ketton, near Stamford, has been cancelled by Castle Cement owing to the water logged ground conditions (excessive rainfall over the last 2 weeks, with more rain forecast for this weekend)!

At this time, there is no news on whether the quarry open day will be re-arranged for another date later this year, or postponed until next year.

This event is held bi-annually and is a highlight in the Chapter calander, which makes the cancellation doubly depressing for all concerned.

From a personal perspective, I have been busting my guts over the last 3 years (over 1000 nan-hours to date) to complete the restoration of my 9U ready for this show and despite many set backs along the way I have managed to keep on schedule for the show, owing to the great support from fellow chapter 2 members John Burbidge and Tony Coates. So I was devistated this afternoon, when I heard the news!

Hello David
Sorry to hear that Ketton has been cancelled due to bad weather. I know that you have been working hard to get your machine ready for this event.I have been involved in organizing events in south Wales for many years, its heartbreaking when we are beaten by the weather.I hope this great event can be rearranged for THIS year.
Keep your chin up mate and look on the possitive side, you have got more time to work on your project.
Keep us intouch about a date for this event.
Take care
Martyn

Martyn,
Provisionally Castle Cement are looking to reschedule the open weekend to the weekend after Arthur's Little Chasterton show. I will know the exact details next week.

Replied by gauntjoh on topic Castle Cement......
David,
I didn't find out the event was cancelled until we arrived on Saturday morning - it wasn't signposted from the main road and for one horrible moment I thought I'd somehow got the wrong weekend !
We were disappointed of course. Merriman's were operating three Cat 957 (I think) trucks and D9, which did entertain us (Quite a few people turned up, one had travelled from York).
The Castle Cement guys did allow us to see and inspect their new Komatsu machines (Wheel Loaders and Trucks), and were very helpful in answering questions, and could only apologise that the site was flooded.
Looking forward to the next event.

John,

Sorry to hear you had an abortive trip on Saturday.

I've also been advised this afternoon, that the open weekend will now be postponed until Summer 2008, the option for rescheduling the show this September is unfortunately not a viable option for Castle Cement.
