Mike,
can you also repour D3400 main bearings? What about rods (I'm guessing not but don't want to assume....). I may end up having to grind my crank (not nearly as much fun as it might sound) and if it's anything like the D311, bearing getting is a bit of a challenge these days

Cheers,
Neil

Yes Neil, I can do both rod and main bearings for those. My book is showing the rod bearings to be shimless so those can be done as a precision bearing. The early mains did have shim packs and the late style were only showing in .050 under but no mention of shims or them being a semi finished bearing. If yours has shim pack on the mains I can do them as a semi-finished bearing and you can have them line bored to fit your crank. If no shims then also can be done as precision bearings. I use high speed babbit for industrial and ag equipment, PM me if you need any work.

Mike - I enjoyed the pictures on your MySpace site. The captions really are educational. Seeing the big Rumley rod in the boring machine is really something. The giant Chris Craft V-8 was really neat, too. That thing would probably sound really neat at full tilt across a lake.

Why thank you! That Rumley rod had the machine stretched to its limits. The ChrisCraft would be nice to hear but I usually never even get to see many of the engines run that I have helped resuscitate back to life. That myspace page until a year ago was even better but they had to go and mess with it and I lost everything but my shop pictures and videos and facebook has too many hoops to jump through.

doing a google search in Australia for white metal bearing repair I was able to find this and if they can't do them they may be able to direct you to a source that can.

What state are you in? Just google "white metal bearings Australia" and you get a good half dozen companies to choose from on the first page alone

There's a few people around Oz who do bearings, I just heard of a guy in WA a few days ago and up till now I had been hearing there wasn't anybody over there, definitely S.A and Vic have options.
