Caterpillar D4 Dozer; With Pony Motor

More
1 month 3 weeks ago #255252 by Catang
This is for a complete Caterpillar D4 Bulldozer. It is an older Caterpiller unit from 1941. It has a gasoline powered pony motor to start it and warm it up. The dozer was not running when we bought it. It had been sitting for a while and the motor was frozen. We freed up the motor and ran it for several years to build about 500 feet of road in rugged Northern Vermont. It did smoke a bit but always got the job done. Once the road was built, we changed over to backhoe activity and have never really needed the dozer for over a decade. So we have decided to sell it. It appears the main diesel motor is frozen again from just sitting. This is a very common occurrence. Fortunately, these older dozer units are designed to be very forgiving and bounce right back into operation. However, the pony motor is still free and feels like it has great compression. Also the tracks are free and the tranny shifts fine. The location is in Northern Vermont at our vacation homes and will be a bit difficult to remove, as it is at the bottom of a 500' downhill driveway that takes 4WD to go back up, although 2WD dump trucks have made it up. We have received a quote from a local contractor who has done a lot of excavator work at our property and he says to move the dozer to the top and load it on to a hauler would be about $500 to $800, depending on how well it goes.

We expected to be selling this to someone similar to my brother and I, who also would have a piece of property that they want to improve, on their own time. This older unit would obviously not be very cost effective to use for a construction business, but it perfectly fine for working at your own pace on a piece of land. However, we have also seen some limited interest in restoration of this unit as an antique.

So we are offering to sell the complete dozer for $3,500. or $4,300 moved to the top of the hill. You may have access to your own heavy equipment. So that is why it is priced the way it is.  The pics still show a D4 winch mounted to the dozer. However, we are currently in the process of removing the winch from the dozer as we had several parties interested in buying this winch.

If it doesn't sell in a few months, we may be willing to parts out the whole thing. Items like the pony motor, winch, main engine, blade system, drivetrain, hydraulics, etc. come to mind.  If you have a long-term project and are trying to line up parts needed, for a similar dozer, please get hold of us and we can discuss what you may be interested in.  If we get enough interest of serious parts buyers, we will consider parting it out.

Please feel free to email me or call us and discuss further and any other options you may have in mind.

This is the only Caterpillar equipment we own (Plus a lot of spares as well for it)  So, I am probably going to let my membership lapse the end of this month, as I get a lot more interest on Craigslist for some reason.  So, save and copy this ad if you are still interested in parts or the complete dozer after March.

Thanks for your time and interest!
