Really neat pics 98J. If you are planting 100 lbs per acre it looks like one would spend as much time filling the drill boxes as one does drilling. ;)

Here in the wastelands of NW KS we usually drill 60 to 70 pounds per acre. A lot of JD hoe drills used here and each 10 ft section holds a little under 30 bu. (1800 lb) Even with that capacity, it seems one is always needing to refill. My rich neighbor got a 40' JD air drill and a 250 bu tank!! He can drill all day with one filling!!

Keep the pictures coming!!

Yo Jim, ya little Dickens! Yup, spend a lot of time cuddled up to the seed truck......in fact, I set my drills with my watch....if I can drain them in an hour, then the rate is just right. Fill time is pretty quick, so it's real easy to
knock out 100+ acres a day.

98j - again, some more beautiful photos. I have been intending to call my cousins in Wasco and chat about their wheat. They have a 98j too, I think. At least it looks like yours. Haven't got a record of the serial number. GWH

What fantastic pictures, I'm sure lots of enthusiasts from here in UK would pay you to work in such nice surroundings, still, I guess it's not so nice all the time !

Hello to Watlington!! Well, yeah, the view is fun, but hey, somebody has to
put up with it and muddle through... My son worked for a custom
harvester based in Kansas....he thought pictures like this were faked somehow..... he can't get his head around wheat harvest and snow in the
same shot.....this is me in a Case-IH 1670 Hillside Combine, shot by one of
our truck drivers.....

Yup, you probably have the tractor spotted that I had in mind. It was a bit north of Dufur. And you are right. LGP D5's used to be all over the place.

Here in the orchards there used to be D2's all over the place but they've mostly been replaced by 4wd wheels. I suppose they are OK until a loaded sprayer pushes them out into the timber on a wet slope,

Personally I prefer to stay with Cat traction to the end.:D And yes, I've ridden a wheel tractor/sprayer down a mud slope FAST.

Nice looking pictures, we have a set of JD 800's just like yours. They work great for just a straight rod weeder, we also run a 47 foot Calkins Culta- Weeder. How many hours you got on the D5? Looks like your treating her right! I assume that you have the cat 2 valve hydraulic's? The older 5's had a better system than the newer ones. Cat finally did something about that when the brought out the D5B.

That's a pretty inspiring view you have to work by in the course of your work. Hope you never get so used it that you aren't awed by it, at least a little!
Thanks for the pictures, always a pleasure to see them!

Looking North to Mt. Adams. Whats the prize? A ride in the Cat? Good pics. Looks a little dry there. We've had over 42" of rain here this year when our ave. is 27". catskinner
